First of all, of all the agaves, century plants in particular need quite a bit of water to thrive, but I hardly water mine and they just seem to grow quite well. It is true that they can survive prolonged periods of limited rainfall, but in the end, they need water on a regular basis or they will die or at least go dormant. Secondly, century plants grow not in the desert, but in semi-arid brush country. Century plants couldn't survive a true desert environment. Thirdly, Agave is a broad family of plants. Century plants are but one type of agave and that's what is pictured. Fourth, some seed stalk can grow close to 40 feet, there was one up the street from these that just did this. Though impressive in height, most grow no more than 15 to 20 feet tall at the very most. Fifth, it's the juice from the interior of the plant that is used to make tequila not the stalk and that is only from one specific species of century plant. The stalk doesn't have any juice in it because all of the plants resources (ie juice) are used in growing the stalk. And sixth, the blossoms on the stalk produce seeds as any flowering plant does and not baby plants. Seventh, century plants are native to only the southern most states in the USA with the greatest number in south Texas. They also grow over a wide range of Mexico. And while they can be grown or transplanted to central and north Texas, they inevitably die from the first cold winter they are subjected to but mine have lasted many winters. I even grew up in a house in central Texas that had them off the front porch and for twenty years they survived many freezes until we moved.

Finally, the type of century plant that I am selling is known as the Blue Century Plant.
