Dear Sifu Gohring: My daughter and I
have been studying martial arts at your school for two years now. My daughter
has really taken a liking to the more vigorous level of study that she
has recently achieved. In fact last night I had her take an extra class
(with your permission) to give her something to do while I was involved
in a class of the academic type. Within ten minutes of having picked her
up she had figured out that if we work it just right then she could actually
take a class every day except Sunday. Now this was not quite what I had
expected, it was a whole lot better. I myself started as
a student of just Tai-Chi. Last spring for a variety of reason, such as
my schedule changing (and a little bit of luck) I ended up in the Kung-fu
class. It was a bit scary to think of somebody my age throwing myself
across the floor in combat rolls, amongst other things. I thought that the calisthenics and stretching were something I really needed so I went with it and redirected my focus. Just this past week I have done something that I have never done before, I touched a toe on each foot (barely) with my leg straight! Oh sure this may not be as big a thrill as when I was thrown over a shoulder for the first time (and didn't get hurt ) but it is a goal I set and for myself. I miss not getting as much of the Tai -Chi as I was getting but I figure that as long as I keep up the hard work studying a little of both , than the two will combine to compliment each other. Yours sincerely,
Julie G. (and Drianna)
