Dear Sifu Gohring:
I first became interested in taking Tai Chi classes because I wanted to
improve my flexibility and posture. I sit at a computer all day at work,
and at the end of the day my back is stiff and sore; I had heard that
Tai Chi could help with these problems. I quickly found that the classes
did help reduce my back pain and made me more conscious of maintaining
good posture, but there was another benefit as well. Learning to focus
on breathing has been one of the most helpful lessons I've gotten from
class. I found that practicing the four rules of breathing is a tremendous
help in releasing both physical and mental stress. I knew that my body
experienced tension in response to stress, but I didn't realize that my
breathing also became quick and shallow, which increases the effects of
stress. Going to class keeps me aware of my breathing, not only during
class, but throughout each day; as a result, I feel much more relaxed
in general, and I don't feel nearly as stressed out as I did before I
began attending classes.
One of the most enjoyable aspects of attending the Tom Gohring School
of Tai Chi is the positive and pleasant atmosphere. Mr. Green is always
friendly, helpful, and patient; he is a wonderful instructor. I especially
like the fact that the students are such a diverse mix of people.
I would recommend Tai Chi to anyone seeking to improve posture and flexibility,
or to relieve stress, or to increase general strength and fitness; it
has certainly done all of these things for me.
Sincerely,
Liz F.
