Q&A and Class Guidelines

What is MUGA?
Make-up, Get-ahead class.

What is Make-up, Get-ahead class?
It is a “free” class that usually meets on Friday evenings and for special schedule weeks like spring break. Make-up means you can come to the class when you missed your regular time during the week. Get-ahead means you can come to get ahead in your curriculum.

What do you mean by “usually meets on Friday”?
Sometimes the class is cancelled for events such as Graduation, Holiday or for a tournament weekend such as, “The Taiji Legacy.”

What do you mean by “free”?
It is currently a free class. Someday this might change or the class may be canceled altogether, but there are no plans to change or cancel it now. “Free” also means that it is free for current students who are members in good standing. No “intro” students or “prospective” students are allowed to observe or attend this class.

What do I work on in this class?
Usually exactly what you need to work on. You should come to class with questions and be ready to work in groups of similar level. Sifu will group you or you can group yourself so that the class is manageable and so you get the best use of our time considering the combination of the students who attend.

Do I get credit for this class toward my next rank?
Of course, just remember to scan in before the class starts.

Are there any special rules for this class?
Of course and here they are:
1. Enter the room carefully, be cautious of those already practicing.
2. You must walk along edges of room before, during and after class. DO NOT walk across the middle of room. (A person practicing might accidentally hit you.)
3. Bring your own water and keep it near you so you don’t have to cross the room to get a drink. (sealed containers only)
4. Wait your turn. DO NOT interrupt Sifu while he is working with another person or group.
5. Be ready for your turn. When Sifu asks what you need to work on or if you have any questions be ready to answer him and be ready to be worked with. DO NOT say, “I don’t know.” If you don’t know then defer to him and say “whatever you would like me to work on.”
6. Continue to practice until he returns. Don’t go and take a break. If you do he will pass you on your next turn. Also, other students might take your spot while your gone.
7. If you have been told to practice something in particular then practice that until Sifu returns to you or tells you otherwise. DO NOT just keep switching things you are working on.]
